Wikipedia describes "Empire Silhouette" as the term for traditional empire waist dresses: "Empire silhouette, Empire line, Empire waist or just Empire is a style in women's clothing in which the dress has a fitted bodice ending just below the bust, giving a high-waisted appearance, and a gathered skirt which is long and loosely fitting but skims the body rather than being supported by voluminous petticoats. A less common term, the style was also known as an "impure waist" possibly due to the fact that it hid the wearers actual waistline. The outline is especially flattering to pear shapes wishing to disguise the stomach area or emphasize the bust. The shape of the dress also helps to lengthen the body's appearance." Suggested Rules for this Tag: -May be used for pictures where the article of clothing is not the traditional empire dress, but simply has a high waistline. (Ex. high-waisted shirts, sundresses, sweaters, robes) -May define how the clothing is worn: pants and skirts worn high up on the torso, above the waist while below the chest, can be tagged as empire style. -Does not apply to clothing with no definite bodice/waistline, such as bodysuits and tight clothes of any kind Other Wiki Information Last updated: 08/18/13 1:46 AM by YuzakiAkane This entry is not locked and you can edit it as you see fit. |
