It was created by Okazaki_Takashi. The original manga ran from November 1998 to September 2002. It was adapted into an anime by Gonzo. In spite of the largely Japanese crew, the anime's voice acting is entirely in English. It notably stars Samuel_L_Jackson, in his sole Japanese anime role to date, as the eponymous protagonist and Ninja Ninja. The anime was directed by Kizaki Fuminori. The Japanese script was written by Mutou Yasuyuki and Yamashita Tomohiro and was converted to English by Derek Draper and Chris Yoo. The soundtrack was composed by famed hip hop musician RZA, a member of the hip hop group Wu Tang Clan and a big fan of Asian pop culture. The series was followed by a movie titled Afro Samurai Resurrection in 2009. It was adapted into two video games by Namco. Although all incarnations of the series have the same premise and share the same themes, the plot plays out differently in each version. It follows the adventures of Afro Samurai, the second strongest warrior in the world, signified by the Number 2 headband he wears on his head. His father, Rokutaro was the strongest warrior until he was killed by the former second strongest, Justice, when Afro was still a boy. Afro swears revenge on Justice and begins a life long quest to get his vengeance, but as Afro comes closer to his goal, he must face the question of whether or not his goal is truly worth it.
