It is a 1985 action movie starring Arnold_Schwarzenegger, Rae Down Chong, Alyssa Milano, Dan Hedaya, and Vernon Wells. It is directed by Mark L. Lester and written by Steven E. De Souza. The steel drum-heavy soundtrack was composed by James Horner. John Matrix is a super strong ex Delta Force operative with the skills to singlehandedly wipe out an entire army. He is well respected and feared by those who know him. One day, his superior Major General Franklin Kirby approaches him at his mountain home and tells him that his former comrades in Delta Force have all been murdered. Matrix has retired though and he intends to remain that way in order to spend time raising his beloved daughter. Unfortunately, soon after Kirby leaves, the mercenaries who murdered Matrix's comrades invade his home and kidnap his daughter. Their leader, a warlord named Arius, gives Matrix twelve hours to head to Val Verde and perform a political assassination. Matrix will be accompanied by a guard to ensure he does his job. Matrix accepts Arius's demands. . . But as soon as Matrix and the henchman board the plane to Val Verde, Matrix stealthily kills the henchman and escapes. Matrix races against time to find and rescue his daughter before Arius discovers what he is up to. The movie embodies and codifies many of the elements people associate with Arnold and his films. His character John Matrix goes through the film effortlessly wiping out his foes no matter how much he is outnumbered, using large and powerful guns, and spouting deadpan and morbid jokes after he offs an enemy. Quite a few of Matrix's one-liners are frequently quoted and parodied. Matrix also exhibits superhuman strength and is able to perform feats like carrying a tree log over his shoulder and tear out a car seat with his bare hands. Matrix racks up an enormous body count by the end of the 1 and half hour long film. The film was very successful, even in Japan, and solidified Arnold's status as an action hero in the 1980s. The film grossed 220 million dollars internationally. Although the film is often seen as emblematic of Arnold Schwarzenegger's action film style, he was not the first choice to star in the film; Gene Simmons and Nick Nolte were considered to play the lead role before Arnold. It has also received a remake in Russia in 2008. Other Wiki Information Last updated: 03/25/15 12:51 PM by jedi1357 This entry is not locked and you can edit it as you see fit. |
