(ゼルダの伝説 ムジュラの仮面)

Tag refers to any image referencing or pertaining to this the_legend_of_zelda game. The character Majora is tagged as majora_(entity). The game is directed by Aonuma Eiji and Koizumi Yoshiaki and produced by Miyamoto_Shigeru. The soundtrack was composed by Kondo Koji and Minegish Toru. The story was written by Koizumi, Miyamoto, and Takano Mitsuhiro. Artwork was handled by Nakano_Yusuke, and Imamura_Takaya.

After the events of Ocarina of Time, Link is searching for a friend in the forest when he encounters the mask-wearing Skull Kid, possessed by the game's villain Majora, and two fairies Tatl and Tael. The possessed Skull Kid steals Link's Ocarina of Time. Link pursues the Kid, only to end up being transformed into a Deku Scrub. During the pursuit, Tatl was separated from Tael. Tatl decides to team up with Link to find the Skull Kid and Tael.

Link soon finds that he has left Hyrule and entered an alternate world known as Terminia. He sets about trying to return to his human state and meets the Happy Mask Salesman who reveals that the Kid stole Majora's Mask from him. Link can return to his human state if he can recover the Ocarina of Time and the Majora's Mask. Also he has three days to complete this task. He sets off to confront the Kid and manages to retrieve the Ocarina, but fails to recover the Mask, which proceeds to bring the moon down and destroy the world. Link plays the Song of Time right before the world ends and is transported back three days earlier.

The Salesman teaches Link the Song of Healing which turns Link back to his human form. Link embarks on an adventure to recover Majora's Mask from the Skull Kid and save Terminia within three days.

The game was released in 2000 for the Nintendo 64 and is notable for its dark and apocalyptic tone; it's generally agreed to be the darkest Zelda game to date. It is also notable for its extensive sidequests and developed NPCs. Like its predecessor, time travel plays a key role in gameplay and story. It also has a time limit. Unlike other Zelda games where the player can for the most part, take as long as they want to fulfill a task, once the in-game clock goes beyond three days, the world ends creating an instant game over. As the game is set in an alternate universe of Hyrule, it reuses quite a few character designs from Ocarina of Time; some NPCs who were very minor in Ocarina of Time become prominent characters in this game. This game is notable for introducing one of the Zelda franchise's most controversial characters, Tingle, although it would not be until his second appearance in Wind Waker that he would develop his infamous reputation. The game's dark tone also inspired a well known Creepypasta, Ben Drowned.

It also features the use of masks which allow Link to transform into and even impersonate others.

This game was represented in Super Smash Bros. Melee, which had the Great Bay as one of the stages. Like its predecessor, the game was remade for the Nintendo 3DS and the remake notably changes the boss fights. While the game wasn't quite as successful as its predecessor, it garnered virtually universal positive reviews from critics and sold 3.36 million copies worldwide. Like its predecessor, it was rereleased for the 3DS.
