Its pretty funny that so many people got easily offended by the content of the first episode (the rape scene in particular) yet when compared to other mature series, it's really tame in comparison. This is what happens when many didn't do any kind of research about that this show is all about and thought this is yet another run-of-the-mill isekai show despite the fact that this is obviously far from it (Crunchyroll and other outlets share the blame for thinking this as well).

^That's what you get when anime went mainstream in the west, suddenly you have kids who only watched Adventure Time or Steven Universe thinking they can graduate to watching based animation.

Or it could just be that rape is a really sensative subject matter in the west that is only in recent decades being taken serious let alone talked about, meanwhile horror films & Japan has this weird fascination with using it as shock factor more than for story reasons.
I love horror, I love japan but come on, there's a right way to handle it and then there's just "for the shock factor lolz!"

Goblin Slayer is really about much, much more than this sort of thing.
Sexual violence has been weaponized in our own non-fictional world for a very long time, and the goblins of Goblin Slayer pretty much do the same. For how terrifying and prevalent that's supposed to be in the world of Goblin Slayer, very little of it appears; when it does, it's done quite artfully to enhance the story.
