Actually, yes. This was a fairly common form of execution and could last weeks before the bamboo sprout grows enough to cause death.

I think the Mythbusters actually tried this out. It did piece the body, but it stopped growing after it reached halfway in (Sunlight blocked by body). But it would still hurt like hell and would still probably kill you.

the mythbusters tryed again but outside and it not only grew thru the body, but grew to 15 feet tall

No trails456, the one she is tied to is likely full grown or close to it, so it likely wouldnt be growing as fast as the one she is sitting on.
