I'm not sure he's male in this pic, though. It's very popular to portray him as a girl or crossdressing. The former because he was originally intended to be female, but the production company thought that a female Gundam lead was too risky... and the latter because he spends an inordinate amount of the series crossdressed, as Tomino's revenge for not getting his way on this issue.
