Is this an instance where our tagging policy is different from Danbo?

Nope.

Feel free to get rid of it.

It's been nuked twice before, if I remember correctly.

The milf tag is meant for characters who are attractive middle-aged women with kids. They typically have huge breasts, too.
I can understand the confusion though since "attractive" is very much a subjective thing.

Danbooru's wiki has it as:

A mature woman with children who still retains her beauty and figure.

which is a little better but raises a bit of an issue since this basically means that ANY character that is a mother, is young or/and that doesn't have sagging breasts should have the milf tag.

The problem becomes more apparent when we remember that milf is just an Abbreviation, and that it really doesn't have anything to do with what Danbooru uses it as. milf's real meaning is in actuality just that somebody wants to screw the character and the character happens to be a mother. I.E it is subjective at its very core.

The milf tag really should be killed with fire. We already have "mother" ect ect tags that already fill the role of allowing users to search for these mothers with non-sagging bodies.

But do we really even need such a tag? A tag that tells us that the mother in the image does not look like she is sagging? That alone means that presume that mothers depicted in images on Gelbooru are sagging and that we need a special tag for those few where the mother isn't sagging. Or should we have a FILF tag too? One for fathers that don't look like they are decrepit I mean?

Just to make it clear, it has been two years since "mature" was killed for being a redundant tag:

gelbooru.com/index.php?page=wiki&s=view&id=1350

It's also worth noting that Danbooru seems to use the tag "milf" in place of a tag like "mother."

Even on Danbooru, there was a forum discussing nuking the tag because it is quite subjective. If I recall, the debate was never settled, so the tag is still there more because of lack of resolution about its fate rather than a choice.

EDIT: Correction, there were two forums about what to do about the milf tag on Danbooru and neither one of them had any true resolution.

Well, until they finally get it figured out, we should probably refrain from doing anything wacky with it.

From what I can gather, the only real issue seems to be the name (Which is silly, considering how many tags we have that use slang terms) and as long as it's defined, it can't be subjective.

Throwing everything into 'curvy' doesn't work because we don't have a 'mother' tag any longer and bringing it back just makes a huge mess of everything.

Adult doesn't work because the tag is for people who aren't normally adults.

Mature doesn't work for reasons that are stated in the second Danbooru thread.

It's much easier to define the tag and remove examples that don't fit for now.

Sure it can. The definition itself leaves it up to the tagger to decide if the woman in the picture looks as if she "retains her beauty and figure". Most of the images I've seen tagged as milf are ones of women with huge sagging breasts, and that is on Danbooru as well.

But yes, the name itself is bad as well (thanks for bringing that up again), seeing as it has already a very clear and defined use that leaves users confused.

Thing is, why do we even need a tag for it? That was the issue I was bringing up here. If the woman in question is a mother, simply tag her as "mother". Giving these characters a specific tag based on their bodies health is weird because we don't do it for men. Sure we have the "fat_man" and the "old_man", but these are there for extremes. Having a tag for a person that isn't fat or old would be like having a "pretty_girl" tag. (that said I've always felt that old_man and fat_man are redundant tags.)

I really don't think it's that incredibly big of a deal anyway.

Discussing is wacky? If they can't come up with a better tag on Dabooru, we could just solve it here then send you as an emissary and convince them that we are right or something.
