Volume default and Next/Previous NavigationPosted on: 05/27/23 08:30AM
I'm having some strange problems with videos and browsing.
tl;dr - Volume defaults to 0.05 for every video despite browser settings being set for full. Blocking JavaScript fixes it, but breaks Left/Right arrow key (and clicking) navigation. Arrow key navigation also gets ignored due to having to click play in a video. Intended? Workarounds?
Detailed - The volume seems to default to 0.05 (according to inspect element) every time I view an animation that has sound. Firefox's default volume in about:config is at 1 (so 100%), and if I change that to anything the videos default volume here doesn't change at all. Is this a website decision or something broken for me? I could see it possibly making sense so inconsistent highs don't blow out peoples ears but 0.05 requires adjusting on every video and gets annoying quickly. If it's a website decision, is there anything I can do to set it myself?
*I found out turning on uBlock and then using its disable JavaScript feature lets the volume default to 100 again, but then that breaks the websites Previous and Next navigation buttons (even clicking them, not just the hotkeys) under the content so I don't really want to use that either. Tried NoScript and changing the different allowed filters and that ultimately resulted in either just blocking the whole video or being in the same position of low volume and no navigation.
**Tried Chrome, same issues.
And now speaking about Previous/Next navigation I don't suppose there is a way to change it to some other key shortcut? Again with videos, I run into an issue where since I have to click the webm to play, the Left/Right arrow keys are then only active in the video player for skipping forward or rewinding, and needing to click outside of the video player to get the keys to work as the navigation shortcuts again.
This one I could live with if I had to, but the volume one kills me.
Is there any solution that could fix all of these at once?
What I tried: googling default web media volume resetting, looked through some Trac and forum(loldeadsearch, great timing for me) pages, the op faq, deleting Gelbooru cookies and also my entire Firefox cookies/cache as well. Other Boorus work fine. Besides trying to find some external viewer program I'm about out of ideas.
