~~So, a quick foreword here. This is something I wrote ages ago, planning to post it on a particular forum which I have developed quite a reputation on as I have been perma-ip b& over 60 times (literally). I figured I'd post it here since I see many mental incompetents and uneducated individuals who are unsure of what "Loli" is (as was just exhibited in a post I responded to on the comments tab on this very site) So, without further ado, I present to you, my work in progress. I have come to the conclusion that there is quite the bit of ambiguity amongst many people concerning what exactly qualifies as "loli". Therefore, I felt the need to put together a little guide in order to assist anyone who shares this uncertainty. Quick discliamer for keredvin and Westy-boy; this thread will NOT be me posting delicious loli hentai, nor will I be posting images that are just barely sfw. The purpose of this thread is to inform the masses of what loli is, what it isn't, and what it is commonly mistaken for. Considering the length and attention to detail I will put into this thread, I MAY end up posting it elsewhere on the internet (with a few edits here and there, ofc), so, bare in mind that my precious guide will likely be available even if one of the above mods decides to delete it for some reason.

I suppose it would be helpful to first define the word in question. I am aware much of this information has already been drilled into your collective heads by moui; a fact I'm sure all of you are quite grateful for. However, I would be remise to not accommodate any newcomers to the forums with all the wonderful knowledge I have bestowed upon you for the past 2 or so years =^-^=

Loli, by definition, is ANY female who is either human or contains humanoid characteristics, whose physical appearance makes them out to be anywhere from, roughly, 8-12 years of age. There are, of course, outliers; a more developed 7 year old could count as loli as well as an undeveloped 13 year old. However, such outliers are often very uncommon, and therefore, are only at the bare borderlines of what can be considered "loli". As you can clearly see, the age bracket expands outward from a central point, quite evenly, might I add:

The central point of course being 10 years of age. Therefore, I like to consider 10 to be the "true" essence and the best representation of what "loli"actually is. I have placed brackets within each increment in order to establish the level of "loliness" typically exhibited within the appropriated age demographic. *please refer to the figure provided above.

Since both the definition and the age bracket have been covered already, I would like to jumpstart straight to the issues at hand, due to the potentially ephemeral attention span of the reader, as well as my own preference.

This is the first thing I'd like to address as it can be somewhat confusing for a newcomer to the concept of loli. In the case of the former, Rika Furude, it is made clear within the series she stars in that her actual body is still around the 9-11 bracket while her mind and consciousness is what has been aged considerably. Since the series revolves around an infinite time loop, wherein Rika is the only one aware that this repetition is occurring, her experiences in life consist of every single one of the many thousands of rewinds that all the other characters are oblivious to, despite being in the same situation as her. Imagine if you will, waking up every morning on the same day, knowing you and all of your friends are going to die in some torturous way and YOU are the only one who is aware of any of this. Only YOU can desperately struggle to try and change your fate as well as the fate of your precious friends; as if you were to divulge this information to anyone, they would likely think you completely mad or just some silly idiotic little girl playing in her make-believe land. Dealing with such a situation for upwards of a hundred years would be enough to make anyone buckle under the pressure; which happens to Rika on several occasions as she undergoes severe mental breakdowns at various points within the series.

Now, specifically, WHY do I bring this all up? I have already established the fact that her body, is indeed, loli-tastic, even if she might still be technically 100+ years old. so where is the issue here? Well, it is a common misconception by onlookers witnessing the behavior of a lolicon, that one of the crucial points that makes them a lolicon to begin with is the "innocence" factor. If one's life experience is that of over a hundred years, that would be anything but youthful innocence; and it is firmly established in the series that Rika is very jaded in regards to matters of sex, murder, etc.; things which the "perfect little girl" archetype would not see in the same light. While there is a great matter of subjectivity here; since not all lolicons are interested in lolis for the same reason, i can safely say, that the innocence factor is not required for a character/person to qualify as a loli.

Now that we've covered the subject of old ladies in little girls' bodies, let's tackle some actual old hags, shall we?

Etna, Flonne, and Rasberyl are perfect examples of a little known trope in Japanese media; characters who are inexplicably old but have the features of a little girl. In many instances this trope is utilized for comedic effect; another good example outside of the Disgaea series (since that entire series is basically a joke, in and of itself) is To Aru Majutsu no Index. The character Komoe Tsukuyomi is a high school teacher who just so happens to look like an 8 year old and to top things off, she's also a friggin' chain smoker. This kind of character is included in too many series to count, so for brevity's sake, I'll keep it to just the characters I have already mentioned.

A quick tangent before returning to the topic at hand; while this trope is often used for comedic effect, it can also be used to avoid potential legal issues under certain circumstances, usually involving eroge and the like.

Anyhow, Etna, Rasberyl, and Flonne (not to mention a few other characters from Disgaea) take this trope to the extreme by appearing to be around 9-12, give or take, while actually being several THOUSAND years old. Within the series it's justified from a logical standpoint since these characters are non-human entities, being demons or angels respectively. Of course, there also exist many non child-like angels/demons in Disgaea who are around the same age as these three, so don't ask me what the hell is up with that shit. Clearly it's not meant to be taken seriously given the entire series is very jocular in essence.

So, the question is, how do these characters qualify as lolis? Well, They qualify as lolis, because the creators' intention was to portray them as lolis regardless of the technicalities. They look like lolis, therefore, they are lolis. Please note, this statement is quite a hassle as it only applies in this particular instance; that is to say, when dealing with characters who are much, MUCH older than they appear to the point of complete absurdity. This also does not apply to anything irl. I hope these two disclaimers help considering the topics I will cover next.

It should be noted, however, that in more recent iterations of Disgaea, the characters Etna and Flonne seem to have aged past the loli bracket. I have noticed in quite a few of the official artworks by Harada Takehito which are being drawn in the same artstyle, however, they look considerably older. Therefore, when one claims either of these characters to be their "waifu" or something similar, you should not immediately jump to the conclusion that that person is a lolicon until they provide you with some pictures they consider attractive of the character in question.

Now onto the next two topics. These topics are about two contrasting mistakes made very frequently by nearly everyone I have met within the anime fandom =_=

The first I would like to cover, is one I personally find to be the most annoying by far. I cannot stand when people make this mistake, because many people who claim to be lolicons are obsessed with characters exclusively within this group. I think the best way to explain this is just to show a few pics first:

^ the characters pictured above are all not lolis. They are, in fact, petite teenagers, or in the case of Lucky Star, teenagers portrayed with a "chibi" aesthetic. While Lucky Star does have a few loli characters which come to mind (Yutaka, Akira, and Hikage) this does NOT mean that a character like Konata, for example, is a loli. Konata's mother has a disease which prevents her body from aging past the "loli" stage, which is played primarily for laughs considering her father is a complete raging lolicon. One might even think that this would mean it falls under the category I illustrated above; characters looking overly young while being older, but the fact that it is firmly established that the mother suffers from this illness(which is a real world affliction, might I add) within the series itself, prevents this from being a possibilty. If the disease in question, was just something made up by the authors to justify the mother looking like a loli, then it could be considered so. Since Konata's mother looks this way due to her disease, it is likely the same is true for Konata herself considering her age and appearence.

Yami is an interesting beast to deal with. She was originally from the series Black Cat under the monkier "Eve" and at the time of her debut, she WAS in fact a loli. Throughout the series, however, the artist began to draw her to look much older, not entirely sure if this was supposed to be an indication of her maturing or if it was just to turn her into a more sex appealy type of character, but I digress. Approximately halfway through the series she could no longer be considered "loli". Then, when ToLoveRu came out, it seems they made Eve, or should I say Yami into even less of a loli, continuing the trend.

Now we get to Taiga.....

I really have to admit, this is one of the worst character achetypes I have ever chanced upon in otaku culture period.

Characters like Taiga; the underdeveloped, extremely insecure, and total friggin' cunt characters. As if the former two traits are supposed to somehow justify the latter. They, of course also fall under the categorey of Tsundere, but unlike the normal kind of Tsundere, their bitchiness tends to revolve around their diminutive stature and lack of T&A.

More importantly, though, these characters are most assuredly NOT lolis. They are merely petite teens with very little to no tits or ass. Period.

And now, fitting as it may be, we address the second topic on the list. The second topic being oppai lolis. Now, what in God's name is an oppai loli, you ask? Well, simply put, an oppai loli is a loli with huge tits (or at least considerably bigger than what is the norm for a loli).

Oppai lolis ARE still lolis, despite having more developed breasts than average. It's just simple, really. I mean, think about it. Just how many times have you seen a real life little girl with more developed breasts or wider hips or even nice plump asses which are atypical of their age? They are called early bloomers. And cartoon lolis can be early bloomers too :O

(Quick note here: you CAN refer to real life lolis who are well endowed in the boobs department as oppai lolis as well. It is just not very common for Japanese lolis to have substantially sized tits, therefore, it isn't a term used irl very often as Japanese people tend to be the only ones to refer to real life little girls as lolis instead of just referring to cartoon characters as most westerners tend to do)
