The Sad Reality of Visual Novel industry
Posted on: 04/12/24 12:40PM

The Visual Novel was a niche that gather a bunch of japanese and international people to enjoy a story with either stunning visualization or animation. In the past, the number of visual novel releases were quite spontaneous and a number of companies/studios were making its debut by showing their story appeal to the customers. Some are either a hit or a miss. However, many of those companies/studios are becoming vague or just disappear into the void. The Saddening Part is those studios/companies that responsible to create a series of stories were completely scrap their visual novel production works to transform them into the sinister GACHA machine.

Example : 1. The Fate series. Started as An Eroge (erotic game) visual novel and move fast foward the series abandoned its past and transformed into the Sinister version Fate Grand Order GACHA game

2.Other Eroge Companies like Light,Lilith-soft, RUNE and Waffle are also doing their sinister and hideous GACHA Business.

3. What is even worse, look at the Visual Novel games that released in Playstation Portable and PS Vita. there are no continuation or just being flat production. Some of the games are actually came from Eroge source and being edited by removing the sex/nude and ecchi stuff scene.

4. Look at Other visual novels that once appear on the PC and Consoles. *Puff* there is no news just empty.

Is this really mean that both general visual novel and eroge visual novel have been lost to the evil clutch of the GACHA business ? It seems apparent that those companies are trying to follow the foot steps of the Fate Series being success in their GACHA scheme. Even the Android market where Gacha/Loot Boxes are gaining more momentum in mind blowing profits.

wait,wait,wait,wait...hold up..RUNE is still around?! jeebus..last I know is that the company went radio silent since '07...

all I remember out of VNs is that it was expensive to make one..there used to be a good amount of eroge VNs out there,I have several that befits my own taste in VN,other than that..no,it's just people think VNs are a product of the decade..it peaked by the mid 2010s.

if you are unsure about all of these..go check out vndb.org,and fascinate yourself with the vast VN collection, and don't forget the forums..lots of dedicated VN enthusiasts in there.

Fate always tried something else way before GO was even a thing. Take a look at Unlimited codes and Extra games.

And the majority of said VN companies had eroge as their starting point and now exploit it since gacha became a thing since Konami nailed it.
Color me surprised.

Doesn't mean the industry itself goes to shit, it's just companies showing their colors, like Capcom and Squeenix.

VNs were never that profitable, or so I heard, so it isn't that surprising that companies with developed franchises would jump right into the PNG gambling craze, as sad as it may be. Part of this would be due to their popularity, or lack there of, as most people either aren't even aware of the medium itself or see it in a bad light.

What i meant here is ルネ literally translated as Rune but The official word from VN DB as Lune.
Hope we are on the same page unless there are some misunderstanding.

And then they still sometimes ask $70/$80 on the digital storefront for games from the early 2000's.

to think having to charge one of these up front for $70 back then...imagine today's inflation rate..that'll cost you more than a monthly mortgage for your porta potty-sized house in a land the size of an airport..capitalism and greed at the behest of nostalgia,everybody!...also compatibility...I remember some of them only want Vista, and no more "advanced" than that.

I mean, pandering to your dying audience is one thing.

But the goal of most companies with a product and an IP they been sitting on for decades, that they want to bring back, is to reel in a new audience, yeah?
