VPN ban incoming?

On top of blocking tiktok the crusty old farts in congress are coming for VPN's I heard. Net neutrality got shot down again, but I think they'll come for VPN's harder.

At the moment, I couldn't find evidence that this was seriously on the agenda of anyone in the US government. I have seen some random anti-porn youtubers express interest in banning VPNs after noticing they could be used to circumvent porn site bans, but these voices are rare, quiet, and seemingly unpopular for now. However, if someone in government or otherwise wants something banned or censored, a VPN can be the next logical target simply because it is the only way to enforce the ban, and you need only wait for the government officials to realize this.

I have precedent for that fear in the UK's government, where the Labour party did legitimately propose banning VPNs, though they have not been successful in enacting this so far.

As consolation, even a ban may not work... case in point China, where everything is banned, everything that gets around bans is banned, but everyone uses VPNs to get around bans, even those who support the bans lol.

no,anon, baseless data suggests nothing of the sort..VPNs stay and grow interest to someone in need of privacy somewhere..is it a cardinal sin to own a virtual protection? look around..and have a reality check..there are people who used one of these, and they say NOTHING,they're minding their own business..get some long rest..and lay off the fear mongering 'shrooms.

Dude what? You're one of the most paranoid forum users on here. The balls of you to say that, LOL.

Although OP, I haven't heard anything of this so far, so I don't think it's anything to worry about.

Sure I guess.

I haven't heard anything serious about a VPN ban, so it's not in any danger at the moment.
