I wouldn't say "just as planned," his face is more like "hmmm...?" or "what does so and so meant by..." you know typical Naruto thinking until someone explains it to him. His expression is more like that.
Also the "just as planned" expression involves more of a serious evil grin, or smirk, and there's a lot more contrast to the face to create a serious feeling.

One thing that irks me a bit is that he never shows Tenten with her alternate hairstyle, braids.
Its so freaking adorable that you can hardly tell it's her, and was only shown in some of the old Naruto endings. I guess it makes more sense for her to have buns in this anyways. :(

Wouldn't actually surprise me that Tenten is his favorite. He's a bit sexist and she is easily the most competent early in the series. I think he just wanted to make more scenes with useless chicks which wouldn't happen if Tenten had any screentime.

@#793471 idk about him being a sexist, never heard about that, anyway from what i've heard he claims, at least, that hes just not very confident when it comes to making heroins, so thats why they come out awkward, and sometimes dont seem as strong as there suppose to be.

Actually she is his favorite, and the lack of page/screentime is due to the fact that so many of his characters end up having rough and unhappy lives, and he wants to keep Tenten happy, so he doesn't put her through shit.
