If some skanky "heroine" wanders into town wearing a metal bikini over pink lingerie and calling it armour, carrying a magic sword that does all the work for her- well. If she can't even handle 4 gaurds, then she was probably a fraud anyway; so by putting her in her proper place like this they're really just keeping her safe, and helping the kingdom avoid getting false hopes.
