Anon : abusive and rejecting ? Hell no. Sasuke rejected Karin from the start, but he never rejected Sakura. Or have you not noticed the difference in how he treated them ? Only problem with Sasuke, he was so convinced he needed to follow his hatred (for reasons that changed over the course of the story) that he closed himsef off to his true feelings and kept dishonest with himself. Something that did not go unnoticed by either Naruto or Sakura, and that's why more than anyone else in the whole village these 2 kept trying to bring him back.
I'll grant you one thing though, there is that one mission when Sakura went after Sasuke with killing intent, where she lost hope for a brighter future regarding Sasuke, something Naruto never gave in.

As for never protecting her in battle, well Sasuke sure grabbed Sakura when she was about to fall into an acid pool surround them and Obito back while Naruto was stalling Kaguya... :-°

She's got her work cut out for her. That's some ancestry and legacy to live up to. But Sasuke will hopefully teach her to avoid the darkness.
