Seems you don't understand what the artist was going for.

You start with Hashirama in the middle, then go 1 to the left and back to the middle. 1 from the right and back to the middle till you reach the end.

There is another part to the pattern. The even numbered Hokage were short-lived interim Hokage, with Kakashi fitting that pattern as a place-holder to give Naruto time to grow up and make jounin. Poor Minato probably has the record as shortest lived kage.
