Instead of doing Boruto, they could have done a bunch of filler before the timeskip and had Naruto and co as younger tweens again.

That would have been a better idea, If they really had to do a third series I would have preferred just seeing naruto in he's twenties and see him finally working his way up to Hokage. Rather than all this Boruto crap.

Then again, that would have delayed the "boruto crap" as you call it rather than replace it, as it it a way to close the whole story once and for all. And Kishimoto seems not to wish to continue the whole story and to want to conclude it quickly. ;)

FanFics are ok though. ;)
