The stand isn't actually called hermit purple, according to the official light novel 'Jorge Joestar', Jonathan's stand is actually called 'The Passion'. It's similar to Joseph's hermit purple, but slightly more useful. The fact that it's Jonathan's stand also explains why Dio was able to use both The Passion (which at the time was referred to as hermit purple #2) and The World at the same time.
