Since the latex is completely transparent, that means it's not thick enough to restrict breathing, and even if there was a perfect vacuum inside that would only be regular air pressure pushing against their chests, a force the human body is designed to deal with. The hole is indeed big enough for someone who is completely immobile to breathe - you'd be surprised how much air your body actually needs when you're breathing fast but holding still.
