Too bad, jedi, you're missing a ton of fun. The games improved a lot since Gen 1. And even so, personnally i've deleted my old game saves just for the fun of restarting them several times. :p

Retry with a recent generation (why not the coming gen 7 ?) and you should see a hudge difference. ;)

GEN 1- Charmander (others obtained in future games)
GEN 2- Cyndaquil (others wonder-traded)
GEN 3- Did a new game three times to get all three.

GEN 4-I'll be honest, I hacked all three...
GEN 5- By doing new games and using BW & BW2 I got all three.
GEN 6- Got all three. THX Pokebank.
