It's part of her backstory. Her heart rate is slowed down so she can take better shots. Skin turns a purple hue when there's not enough oxygen getting to it.

That's game logic for you. Almost every game's logic falls to pieces under scrutiny. If you don't think about it too much you won't fret the inconsistencies.
