Clementine's ego is also comparable to a fucking mountain. "in the realm of heroes" she may have been, but she was probably a bottom feeder.

First of all, it's the whole point. She says she's a Hero, so she gets called a hero mockingly as she is killed by someone who is a thousand times stronger than anything living in that world.
Secondly, she was no bottom feeder whatsoever. There are several stronger than her (any of the dragons, the godkin, Evileye) but as far as humans go there are extremely few that could give her a fight if she has her full gear (which is comparable or better than Gazef's full set of magic equipment).
Gazef himself is considered little more than a nuisance by Clementine (and she knows his abilities and equipment well).
Fluder is about the only human I can think of that is straight up stronger than her (and even then Clementine has a chance if she can surprise him). Lakyus could give her a tough fight but with equal equipment I'd still give it to Clem.

Just because she can actually back up her ego doesn't change the fact that she seems to think so highly of herself that the viewer given the wrong (or simply not enough) context may think she's just full of it.

This is why I said it was premature to assume anything as I'm really only up to speed with the anime, I tried getting into the LN but I dropped it partway through the first volume so none of the above names besides Gazef rings a bell.

The guy saying Clementine is one of the strongest humans is full of it. She was the weakest member of the Black Scripture, the group she fled from, and while she *was* a badass in the context of regular people she was by no means anywhere even close to the top-ranks. Gazef would have handed her her ass.
