More like an increasing number of people are realizing just how little character, personality, development, importance to the story, etc. Hinata has compared to the others.

Even SP and Shueisha realize it, which is why they immediately shoved Hinata back into the background after the backlash from The Last, the Hokage one-shot and such, and hardly have her doing anything again while quickly halting attempts of showing her in advertisements, especially involving Team Seven imagery and such. This is also reflected in viewership for the anime and sales of the manga and other merchandise dropping.

Hinata got more development than Sakura. She never developed past being in love with Sakura, despite it being a very abusive relationship for 90% of the show.
