Small correction, Anon 2; In this case, while a trap is indeed a 'cross-dressing cosplaying boy' that doesn't necessarily mean that a cross-dressing cosplaying boy could likewise be classified as a trap. Technically any boy could do a crossplay, but NOT every boy could be mistaken for a girl while doing so.
You see, a trap is so called because of their ability to effectively pass as a girl. At first glance, (and possibly even upon close inspection) they are nearly indistinguishable from a real girl in appearance, and sometimes even mannerisms. (For all intents and purposes, they may as well be a futanari minus the lady bits.)

So, what we have is a sliding scale that has 'girl' and 'boy' on the far ends, with those that blur the line in some way in between.
