Sonic full speed could well have avoided the beams had he not tried to help Pikachu. But then again, he wouldn’t be Sonic if he hadn’t.

You must of been watching something different because that light engulfed the entire galaxy. No matter how fast Sonic can run, he would of been caught anyway. Kirby only got away because his warp star when to hyperspace.

Obviously you havent played Kirby if you actually thought Kirby went to "Hyperspace".
When his body couldnt handle the amount of force put onto it and he "Exploded" as he does when he "dies" in a kirby game.

He came "back" due to game logic being he had "extra lives", just like the games he's from.
The other chars didnt die, merely captured and reverted to trophy form.
