That is idiotic logic. Sandman controls sand too. In fact, that he is MADE of sand would give him much better control over it.

Sandman may control sand but he cant control living entities as gaara sand is shukaku even after he loses him(but this is jinchuriki gaara)
Gaara can control any form of sand so therefore sandman can suck on that
