Actually Kishimoto explained Hidan's power in one of the fanbooks. He has to keep killing if he wants to stay alive. So he's probably not dead yet but he will be soon if he stays down there.

And Orochimaru left and was replaced ages ago. He isn't part of Akatsuki and doesn't seem like he can go back so there's no point to him being there.
