That's because Samus has gone from badass to whiny little child when ever she sees Ridley now.

Considering she's fought and filled the fucker multiple times before Other M, her reverting to a whiny child that time was stupid and out of character. If anything, she should have had such a reaction in Zero Mission, what with it being HER FIRST TIME FIGHTING RIDLEY after it killed her parents.

But no, she was a stoic badass and got the job done without flipping out, removing her armor and needing somebody to save her before she got her balls back.

Yeah. Emotion is PERFECTLY portrayed on a 2D sprite. For all we know, she could be freaking out behind the visor every time Ridley is shown to be resurrected.

Granted, her reaction was a bit much (what with her being completely struck with fear and unable to react), but maybe this encounter was just one too many for her. Maybe it finally struck her that her parents' murderer may NEVER be defeated for good.

Other M was actually (I'm pretty sure) the second time she fought ridley, and she only actually killed him once, which was why he turned into meta ridley. Ridley is just really good at cheating death

Wrong. Other M comes after Super Metroid, which comes after Metroid 2. And between Metroid 1 and 2 comes the Prime Trilogy. So, assuming there aren't any more hidden midquels, Other M is the ... sixth time she's fought Ridley.

Wait, make that fifth. I forgot he didn't appear in Prime 2 as well as Metroid 2.

I've read alot into the Metroid series, and it would appear that Ridley has only died ONCE (!). One of the Space Pirate logs in Metroid Prime clearly state that Ridley survived his Zero Mission battle. In Prime 1, we never see him die, he just falls into the abyss. Prime 3, Samus fights him twice, but in the second battle (Omega Ridley), we never actually see him explode, as the camera looks away right before the explosion; additionally, the list in your ship that keeps track of all your kills doesn't increase after the battle (meaning Samus did not kill him).

In conclusion, Ridley has only died ONCE, which is in Super Metroid. So, its only understandable that she freaks out in Other M, especially after the entire planet Zebes blew up with whatever remains his body left, making his survival unlikely.

Also, remember that a LONG time has passed since the events of Super (maybe years since everyone has forgotten Pirates and Metroids, according to Samus), and seeing all those old friends of hers slowly brought up emotional memories, which all contributed to the resurfacing of the traumatic memory of Ridley that she had finally put behind in her life.

The counter in Samus's gunship probably can't be taken as evidence. Considering Ridley was fully corrupted by Phazon in Prime 3 when you fight him for the last time, I'd say that's a pretty good indicator that he was probably dead at that point too.

Also, "read alot[sic]" doesn't make you an expert. For the record, there are six Ridley fights before Other M: Zero Mission (A regular fight in which his body is completely destroyed, and a final fight in which the robot body housing his mind is also destroyed, followed by the entire ship going massively nuclear), Prime (Meta Ridley fight, ambiguous enough I'll grant it to you), Prime 3 (Falling-shaft fight, and then Omega Ridley which is a pretty good case for another 'death'), and then Super (Ridley fight, killed and then vaporized with Zebes).

By that point she had seen him questionably dead twice, and most likely dead once. And fought him a total of six times. I'm sorry, but I don't buy her reaction in Other M. Some fear, yes, I can see it. Frustration/despair over him continuing to come back, I can see it. But Samus's reaction in Other M was nothing less than mindless, paralyzing, mind-numbing terror in which she was effectively a child before him, and that's just too much for someone who's been through everything she's been through.

I have no problems with a character being humanized. I quite enjoy it, in fact. But making her that weak is not "humanizing" her, it's destroying her character. If they wanted to make her strong-but-human, they should have taken their cue from Ellen Ripley circa Aliens. She was a much better-written sample of what they were going for.
