Summary:print underscore in tag names
Description:Don't know if it's possible but, could we get the underscore(_) to show up in the tag names of tag links?

Why?

Cause of copy/paste errors; I copy and past tag names I don't wish to retype due to possible spelling errors.

The way it works now, I have to retype/reedit a tag(and find the additional pieces scattered) and input the underscores cause it didn't grep them initially.

On which page? Are you able to access our API to make gathering of tags easier?

This is more toward Thref; the way I usually try to deal with this depends on what I'm doing. If I'm just uploading a bunch of material of the same character/series, I make the relevant tags into my tags so I just click them and I'm okay. If I'm trying to get the tag from a picture with similar content, I just click Edit and copy the relevant tags.

Though I will say here that first timers doing searches are likely to not realize they need to add underscores because the tag names don't suggest they need it.

Ohhh, yeah. The "My Tags" section in the account options is really helpful. And undocumented!

No, I'm not talking about Upload procedures.
I'm talking about cutting and pasting the text of tag links; what the tags print; I have a tag with 2 words on one page, but because the _ isn't printed, when I paste it in the edit section of a tag I'm editing, it counts it as two separate tags, cause when I copied it, it didn't have the Underscore. I then have to go back(re-edit) and find which 2 or more word tags were separated and re-link them together with underscores.

The way I'm proposing it should work is that the tags should already have printed underscores so I'll I'd have to do is Copy and Paste Without having to re-edit the tags again.

And salarta also made a good point.

The my tags also works on editing images. The reason there are spaces is because _ will break the layout. A really long word or string of letters will overflow and cause the tag to not be fully visible. This is not something I know how to fix as I think there is no way to fix it.

Thref replied at 2009-10-05 04:30:56
Current Scheme:

1. tag name(as shown in Post and List views as links to other images containing that tag)
2. tag_name(required for edits and searching tags)
3. tag name(What I copy from 1 above, creating two tags when image tags are edited)

Proposed Scheme:

1. tag_name(as should be shown in Post and List view to preserve tag name and prevent 2 extra tags while editing via C&P.)
2. tag_name(required for edits and searching tags; perhaps do some voo doo so that the spaces entered in search only create _ instead, could be helpful to new users)
3. tag_names(What I copy from 1 above, successfully adding that tag through C&P without having to add additional underscores.)

I'm pretty sure Implementation is possible through the proper use of Escape sequences and cause I've seen it work in different areas of this site.

lozertuser replied at 2009-10-05 11:25:45
This will not change as the layout will be broken if it is. For instance:

this_is_a_long_tag_that_will_if_long_enough_break_the_layout_of_this_comment_box_and_cause_it_to_expand_to_unbelievable_length._a_bit_more_length_to_push_this_message_over_the_limit_so_that_it_reaches_the_end_of_the_page_width.

This is why it will not be implemented. Use the My Tags feature in the account options in order to easily click to add tags to images.

???
. . .

Well, I tried explaining it with few and with many and it just didn't take.
I'm not saying, make every single space on this sight turn into an underscore, I'm saying that the tag_name should print the underscore when it appears on the screen(it can stay the way it is internally if needed), Not that we should reverse the spaces used in the comment/edit box with underscores or anywhere else.

The My tags require previous steps and there is a possibility for mistagging with so many tags there, also, some rare tags are only needed once or a few times. It's short term versus long term.

If recursive mirror type procedures confuse you with the addition of lack of use of escape sequences, then I guess this can't be done for that reason alone. And yet, some regular expressions can be used in the search function without problems.

The situation here as I see it to be from your end is:

We can't do it +
We won't do it =
It can't be done.

Where the correct circumstances and overruled judgment as I see it to be are:

We can't do it +
We won't do it =
It won't be done.

Won't != Can't
There's a difference, it's difficult when one thinks they mean the exact same thing.
Still, the Initial 'Can't' involved pretty much sets the overall environment for the bases of the conclusion.

This statement is also true:

We can do it +
We won't do it =
It can't be done

Although, this is the more precise statement:

We can do it +
We won't do it =
It won't be done

Given that as my closure, I will drop the case concerning this matter using reasons stated in this ticket elsewhere while applying the statements of this post to the overall equation.
