Now Viewing: mac-10Tag type: None The common nickname for the Military Arms Corporation M10, a compact .45 caliber sub-machinegun. Sometimes mistaken for the IMI Uzi, which it does share mechanical features with, but is easy to distinguish the two once you recognize how it's far simpler in design and construction. Even at a glance, the MAC-10 comes off as particularly boxy and 'featureless.' Noted for a VERY high cyclic rate, and being quite top-heavy, it's not seldom depicted with a large suppressor attached, which was one of the most common accessories, not just for dampening sound, but because it gave a large forward point to hold on to which made the gun much easier to control. As suppressors tend to become hot quickly with full-auto fire, a common accessory for the suppressor itself was a heat insulating synthetic cloth cover which would wrap around the suppressor, protecting the user from scalding their fingers after emptying two magazines in a row. The M10's little brother is the M11, or "MAC-11," chambered for the smaller .380 Auto cartridge, identical in features and looks, just scaled down. The MAC-10's original "Sionics" suppressor is visually distinct for its two-part design, the front end of it being a smaller diameter than the base, while the MAC-11's original suppressor is a continuous cylinder shape. As these suppressors attach by simple threading around the base of the gun's muzzles, they can however accept a very wide variety of different suppressors and other devices or accessories with a matching corresponding thread pattern. With bankruptcies and designs and properties long since lapsing into the public domain, there have been many clones and copies of these guns, many which look identical or very similar, while others deviate in their own ways.
