Squid Girl") is a moe comedy manga and anime about an anthropomorphic squid, ikamusume, who travels from the ocean to try (and fail) to conquer the surface world in revenge for humanity polluting the oceans. Despite Ikamusume's desire to defeat humanity, the squid girl finds herself under the thumb of the Lemon Beach House owners Aizawa Chizuru and Aizawa Eiko. Even worse (from Ikamusume's perspective), most people at the beach think she's a nice girl and befriend her, distracting her from her 'invasion.' The manga's chapters are often no longer than a few pages and the anime adaptation's episodes are divided into three short segments. The series also features Mini-Ika segments, which star a miniature version of Ikamusume. These segments are completely silent aside from narration and Mini-Ika making noises, but they and Mini-Ika have become quite popular. The success of this series and Ikamusume herself has launched the career of her seiyuu Kanemoto Hisako. The anime also features quite a few video game parodies and homages as Ika and Eiko have an interest in video games. The anime/manga is frequently compared to the game Splatoon due to both works starring cute squid girls. Anbe also noted the similarity between the two and drew fan art of the game prior to its release. Ika's costume is also available as a DLC outfit. This led to him drawing an official crossover between the two works. Characters Main Characters: • ikamusume - The titular character. • aizawa_eiko - Arguably, the deuteragonist. She owns and runs Lemon beach house with Chizuru, her elder sister, and insisted Ikamusume work there to repay the damages she inflicted. • aizawa_chizuru - Oldest of the Aizawa siblings. She owns and runs Lemon beach house with her sister and seemingly possesses superhuman combat abilities which are never explained. She is generally calm and polite but can become very menacing if provoked. • aizawa_takeru - Youngest of the Aizawa siblings. He likes to play with Ikamusume. Supporting: • cindy_campbell - UFO researcher from America. She believes Ikamusume is an alien and frequently tries to take Ikamusume to her lab for research. • nagatsuki_sanae - A friend of Eiko who develops an obsessive infatuation with Ikamusume. • saitou_nagisa - A surfer and employee of Lemon beach house. She is the only character who actually fears Ikamusume (for her abilities and agenda), much to the other's delight. • arashiyama_gorou - A Lifeguard and friend of Eiko. He secretly has a crush on Chizuru. • tokita_ayumi - Daughter of a rival beach house owner. She's very beautiful but also very shy and often wears a ridiculous Ikamusume mask with various implements and tools built in.
