Now Viewing: the_legend_of_zelda:_breath_of_the_wildTag type: Copyright (ゼルダの伝説 ブレス オブ ザ ワイルド) Tag refers to images specifically referencing this 2017 installment of the The_Legend_of_Zelda franchise. It is directed by Fujibayashi Hidemaro, the fifth game in the franchise and the second console Zelda entry that he directed, and produced by Aonuma Eiji. It was released on March 3, 2017 for Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Wii U. The soundtrack is composed by Kataoka Manaka and Iwata Yasuaki who go for a more quiet and ambient sound with the piano acting as the soundtrack's central instrument. The story was written by Toda Akihito and the artwork was handled by Takizawa_Satoru. Link, a young man with no memory of his past, is awakened from a long slumber in the Shrine of Resurrection by a mysterious female voice. He wakes to find a Hyrule kingdom that is a shadow of its former self. The once-majestic Hyrule Castle is now a set of long abandoned ruins. The castle now houses Ganon, known as Calamity Ganon, who was sealed there 100 years prior to the start of the game after he laid waste to the kingdom. However, Ganon is about to make a comeback, and Link is tasked with stopping Hyrule's eternal nemesis. This installment of the franchise notably makes many changes and adds many new features to the Zelda formula such as Link no longer getting hearts and rupees from randomly cutting grass in the wild. He now recovers health from consuming food that he gathers in the wild. He must also pay attention to the status of the weapons he uses, which will break if he's not careful, but he now has a much larger variety of weapons to use and can steal his enemies' weapons. It is also the first official Zelda game to feature voice-acted dialogue as opposed to the grunts of previous 3D Zelda games and has been dubbed into 8 different languages. At the same time, the game hearkens back to the original Zelda, which was one of the earliest open-world games, in its design and even includes recreations of environments seen in the original game's official art. Like said game, it features a non-linear open world structure, encouraging the player to explore. The game is open-ended to the point that the player can choose to immediately head for the final boss upon completing the opening portion of the game. Along with encouraging exploration, the game also allows for open-ended strategies in approaching combat and puzzles. Enemies' AI is also more fleshed out, allowing them to interact with the environment and improvise much like a player would. The game also notably has one of the largest world maps of any game, 2nd only to Xenoblade Chronicles X's. If a player has an amiibo of Twilight Princess' Link, said Link's Wolf form can be summoned as a partner. Upon release, the game became one of the most critically acclaimed games ever made, reaching top 10 most critically acclaimed games ever on multiple review sites and becoming the most critically acclaimed Zelda game since Ocarina of Time. The game won the 2017 Game of Year, Best Game Direction, and Best Action Adventure awards at the 2017 Game Awards. The game eventually received a direct sequel that was built off of the same engine, much like Majora's Mask was for Ocarina of Time. The game also received a hack and slash prequel called Hyrule Warriors: The Age of Calamity in 2020. The game follows the gameplay style of Hyrule Warriors but tells the story of this game's backstory in much greater depth and allowing the player to actually play through it.
