Now Viewing: akebono_(kantai_collection)Tag type: Character 曙 (Daybreak) Akebono is the 8th of the Ayanami-class destroyers (18th of the Fubuki_(Kantai_Collection)-class) as personified in the game Kantai_Collection. She is part of the 7th Destroyer Division, along with her sister-ships Oboro_(Kantai_Collection), Sazanami_(Kantai_Collection) and Ushio_(Kantai_Collection). Akebono has purple_eyes and very_long_hair, purple_hair in a side_ponytail. She wears a hair_flower and hair_bell at the place where it is tied. She wear a school uniform in serafuku-style like the other 3. She also typically wears black_legwear and loafers outside of her combat gear. Her combat gear (machinery) includes a backpack-like smokestack and tripod mast, with a boxy, twin-cannon turret held with both hands, and carried over a shoulder strap. Her shoes are armored, and she wears dual torpedo turrets on her thighs, like many in the Fubuki-class. Her most salient trait is her tendency to refer to the admiral/player as a "Shitty_Admiral," and is seemingly always angry about something. (In some fanworks, calling the admiral "shitty" is so ingrained in her, she even calls the admiral "shitty admiral" when she's in love (post #2399877), like other girls might say "darling".) She's typically portrayed as a tsundere with almost no dere, at least not verbally, or a bitter-tongued tsukkomi. Oftentimes, she's seen playing a "big sister" role to Ushio, who is often portrayed as the most childish and clumsy of the 7th Destroyer Division. Along with the rest of the 7th Destroyer Division, Akebono has been one of the most frequent targets of limited-time special event artwork, like a special portrait for the new year of 2015, giving her a basic Wa_Maid uniform consisting of a short_kimono with a floral_pattern, tasuki, a small apron as well as a broom and a dustpan. She also got a special Valentine's Day line in 2015. ("Haa? Chocolate? The hell are you talking about, you shitty admiral? ... Well I do have some, though. Hurry up and take it! Here!") During Summer of 2015, she wore a pink bikini under her skirt, to go with the swimwear theme of the 7th Destroyer Division. (She also gained lines yelling at the Admiral not to peek or touch her, and also saying Ushio should lose some weight.) Autumn 2015 brought out a fishing outfit for the saury-fishing event. She wears a fishing vest, waders and pantyhose, carries a fishing_rod, and a book on fishing. (She also gains a line admonishing the Admiral to read, himself, to redirect from why she's reading a book on fishing when it's the admiral's quest to do the fishing.) She, along with her divisionmates, has early Summer seasonal CG. She wears a pink two-piece swimsuit with the bottom presumably under her usual skirt. She carries her serafuku top and she wears a magenta wrist_scrunchie. This portrait reveals that she has practically no breasts, somewhat like Ryuujou_(Kantai_Collection) or Taihou_(Kantai_Collection). Like Kasumi_(Kantai_Collection), her sharp tongue is based upon her historical namesake being the victim of unfair treatment by the real-life admiral in charge. The captain of the Akebono was unjustly scapegoated by the admiral for letting Shoukaku_(Kantai_Collection) become damaged in The Battle of Coral Sea. (Even though there was little a destroyer could do about multiple waves of aircraft.) This means that the "shitty admiral" Akebono hates is actually Takagi Takeo [1]. She was reassigned to the rear after that, and never again had a prestigious post. Further, on her next escort mission, the USS_Albacore_(SS-218) sank her sister-ship IJN Sazanami, and when IJN Akebono went searching for the USS Albacore, it delayed her so much the transports she was escorting were also destroyed, resulting in another stinging failure. At Leyte [2], she was assigned to protect the Mogami_(Kantai_Collection) after the admiral's hasty retreat order aboard the Nachi_(Kantai_Collection) caused a collision between Nachi and Mogami. Mogami was then sunk by more air raids Akebono couldn't stop. Then, Akebono was tasked with protecting Nachi from further air attacks as the Japanese retreated from Leyte [3], which resulted in Nachi being destroyed by further air raids still, and Akebono being severely damaged. Akebono was towed to dock by Ushio, but further air raids still destroyed Akebono in Manila Harbor. Akebono just has no luck with American aircraft... Ultimately, Ushio, the "lucky" sister, was not only a survivor of the war, but her better war record got her improved anti-air defenses to protect against air raids, while Akebono languished.
