Now Viewing: asura's_wrathTag type: Copyright A 2012 animesque action video game developed by Cyber_Connect_2 and published by Capcom and was developed using Unreal Engine 3. The soundtrack was composed by Fukuda Chikayo. It is a cross between fantasy and science fiction, mixing elements of Buddhist/Hindu mythology and space opera. The game is much more story driven compared to most action games and the developers have stated that they came up with the story first and then adapted the gameplay to it. Accordingly, the gameplay and storyline are closely intertwined and the game often alternates gameplay styles depending on the narrative. In some chapters, the game plays like a rail shooter while in other segments the game plays like a 3D beat em up. The game also includes plenty of quick time events and many cutscenes will often have button prompts that the player must press on cue or else Asura will get beat up. It tells the story of the demigod Asura, who has lost a lot of his powers thanks to his fellow demigods. The demigods have killed him along with his wife, and his daughter has been kidnapped to power up the demigods. Asura is so enraged by this tragic turn of events that he wills himself back to life from the underworld and embarks on a quest to rescue his daughter and enact vengeance on his fellow demigods, but as Asura takes down his former comrades one by one, he learns that there is much more at stake and that Mithra will play a key role in various machinations. The game is reminiscent of an anime in the way it is structured. The game is divided into episodes and during the middle of an episode there will be an eyecatch and most episodes end with a "To Be Continued." The episodes, except for the final chapter of the DLC, are often roughly twenty-thirty minutes in length, much like the average length of an anime TV series episode. Two DLC episodes, 11.5 and 15.5, are even animated in the traditional anime style as opposed to the 3d graphics of the rest of the game. The game is notable for its very large scale and over the top battles. One of the earliest bosses in the game grows larger than a planet and attacks Asura by poking him with his now gigantic finger. The boss battles are often large enough in scale and lengthy enough that they frequently take up an entire chapter. Many of the game's developers responsible for the game's boss battles had also worked on Naruto Shippuden Ultimate Ninja Storm 2 and worked on the large scale battles for that game. Since said developers were busy working on this game, Ultimate Ninja Storm 2's follow up Ninja Storm Generations lacked the boss battles seen in Ninja Storm 2. The game is also heavily influenced by Buddhism in its visuals. For example, when the gods take damage they begin to resemble damaged Buddhist lacquer statues. The game was also influenced by the Clover Studios game God Hand and when the game was revealed, Producer Tsuchiya Kazuhiro stated that he hoped the game would satisfy anyone wanting a sequel to God Hand. The game's story and gameplay is built around wrath because the creators felt that it was an universal emotion that everyone could understand. CC2 President Matsuyama Hiroshi described the emotion as something that can be seen as negative but also as something that can be a great motivator, driving someone who feels it to overcome all obstacles. The game also has DLC that includes a crossover with Street Fighter and some extra episodes that fill in plot details as well as a few episodes that continue directly after episode 18 that wrap up the game's storyline.
