It was adapted into an anime TV series that ran from October 9, 2011 to December 25, 2011. The anime is directed by Itagaki Shin and written by Fudeyasu Kazuyuki. The soundtrack is composed by Iwasaki Taku. The characters are designed by Hirata_Katsuzo. Multiple manga based on the series have been created. It has also received a prequel manga starring Yarizui Sen called Ben-Tou Zero, made by the original creators. Satou You is just beginning high school, but right at the beginning of the year, he is brutally beaten up while trying to purchase a half price bento for dinner. The beating is so bad that he initially does not remember what happened the night he got beaten up. The next few attempts to buy bento don't go any better. Satou is frustrated, but he does not want to give up on the bentos in spite of the danger. He seeks the help of Yarizui Sen, the leader of the Half Price Association and a legendary ben-to brawler known as the Ice Witch, who introduces him to the world of the Wolves (people who participate in these ben-to brawls) and trains him in the art of fighting for half price bentos. Satou gradually becomes a formidable fighter himself but is also dragged into gang war-esque confrontations with more powerful and less scrupulous ben-to brawlers. The series applies shonen conventions to a mundane activity, ben-to shopping, creating a series that blends visceral hand-to-hand brawls with slapstick comedy and fan service. The anime also features numerous references to Sega video games. Sato is frequently shown playing Virtua Fighter 2 with his friends.
