Now Viewing: cardboard_box_gundamTag type: Character 箱ガンダム A meme popular in Japan featuring someone in a Gundam "costume" which is actually nothing more than a cardboard box with a few holes cut and "GUNDAM" written in black ink on the front. It was started by a picture of someone posing in their infamously half-assed cosplay attempt. The original cosplay was done by American Gundam fan Paul M. Palgen at the Anime Central convention in 2003. The 'costume' was an improvised one; Paul had originally intended to cosplay Zack Fair from Final Fantasy VII, but the Zack costume became unusable right before the convention started. Paul did not want to go to the convention without a costume, but his sister responded, "Nobody's going to care. Just wear a cardboard box and say you're a Gundam." Paul found this idea amusing and figured that other anime fans would also feel the same way so he decided to do just that. The photo spawned both fanart parodies and real life parodies with other anime fans wearing the cardboard box Gundam outfit themselves. Fanart parodies often involve various anime characters, including Gundam series characters, wearing the costume. It is also common to draw Paul himself in an anime style and he has even been made into a figurine. post #245435 - The original Other Wiki Information Last updated: 04/30/23 2:51 AM by Mhazard This entry is not locked and you can edit it as you see fit. |
