Now Viewing: den'ei_shoujoTag type: Copyright (電影少女) Fantasy romance dramedy anime/manga created by Katsura_Masakazu. The manga ran from 1989- 1992. In 1992, it received an anime OVA that covers the first few volumes of the manga. The anime was animated by Production_I.G. and directed by Nishikubo Mizuho and written by Akahori Satoru and Sekijima Mayori with a soundtrack composed by Okada Tohru. It has also been adapted into a 1991 live action film directed by Kaneda Ryuu. The manga also received a live action drama in 2018, that functions as a direct sequel to the manga. Moteuchi Yota is a teen boy who has fallen in love with Hayakawa Moemi, but she only sees him as a friend and is instead in love with his best friend Niimai Takeshi who does not seem interested. Yota is depressed, but is too kind to hold resentment against either of them and in his despondency finds himself wandering into a video store one night and purchasing a strange video that stars a 'video girl' that will supposedly make him feel better. Yota watches the video which stars a cute and gentle girl named Ai, but things take a bizarre turn when Ai suddenly materializes in front of Yota. On top of that, Yota's VCR at the time is broken and this causes Ai to suddenly change personality; instead of sweet and gentle girl, she has become outgoing, aggressive, and prone to mood swings. Yota also learns that the video store he purchased the video from has mysteriously disappeared so he is stuck with Ai living in his house. Yota decides to put up with Ai who learns of his love problems concerning Moemi and decides to help him. But as Ai helps Yota win Moemi over, she finds herself falling in love with him and Yota begins to reciprocate the feeling, leaving him increasingly unsure of who he truly loves. To make things worse, a sinister man named Rolex suddenly arrives and he intends to take Ai, who he sees as a defective product, back. . . The manga spans 15 volumes, but the main storyline ends at volume 13 with the last two volumes focusing on a new group of main characters.
