Now Viewing: Kamina_(ttgl)Tag type: Character カミナ Simon's hot-blooded best friend. He is a blue haired and muscular young man who never wears a shirt. The only top he ever wears is a long red cape with the Gurren Brigade logo on it. He wears a distinctive pair of triangle-shaped orange sunglasses which are so closely associated with him that they are often referred to as Kamina Shades. While the two are not blood related, Simon sees him as his older brother and admires him so much that he isn't sure what he would do without him. He is Simon's main source of emotional support at the beginning and has an unwavering faith in his friend who gets little respect. He is a rebellious young man, clashing with the underground village leader because he insists on going to the surface. Soon after leaving the underground village, he quickly becomes the leader of Gurren brigade and along with Simon, pilots the Gurren Lagann with him specifically piloting the larger Gurren, which functions as the body when the Gurren and Lagann combine. Because of his charisma and bravery, he quickly gathers and unites a large crew of people underneath the Gurren Brigade Flag and becomes a major source of inspiration for humanity. While members of the brigade credit their successes to Kamina, Kamina himself firmly believes that Simon is the major reason why Kamina has been able to come as far as he has. In fact, Kamina considers Simon to be his biggest inspiration besides his father. In episode 11, Kamina reveals his side of the story of when Simon and Kamina were trapped underground to Yoko. While Simon thought Kamina's joking around was a sign of Kamina's fearlessness, Kamina reveals that although he was cracking jokes, he really had no faith in their own survival and he was inspired by the quiet determination that Simon showed as the boy persistently dug a hole so that they can escape. The series initially presents him as if he is the main character of the story until the eighth episode where he is killed off and Simon is revealed to be the main character of the story all along. Although he is ultimately a supporting character in the larger scheme of the story, he is one of the most popular characters in the series. On foot, he usually fights with a katana. He also develops a relationship with Yoko. He is famous for his many hot-blooded speeches which are often quoted. He is also the star of the popular English language fan comic buddy cop parody Double K. His theme is "Rappu ha Kan no Tamashii da! Onore wo Shinjite Ten wo Yubisasu Dotou no Otoko Kamina-sama no Teema wo Mimi no Ana Kappojitte Yo~ku Kikiyagare!!" which translates to "Rap is the Soul of a Man! Perk Up Your Earholes and Listen REAL Close to the Theme of Lord Kamina, the Man of Raging Billows Who Believes in Himself and Points to Heaven!!" He is voiced by Konishi_Katsuyuki who also likes the character as much as many fans of the series do. At the 2010 Anime Expo, he stated that Kamina is his favorite anime character.
