She graduated from Toho Gakuen College of Drama and Music and made her debut as a voice actress in 1994's Metal Knight Miku, playing a boy. She often alternated between playing young boys and female characters, who were often tomboyish. She also frequently voice acted in anime with a yuri subtext. She notably had major roles in Key's seasonal trilogy of visual novels: Kanon, Air, and CLANNAD. She was most famous for playing Tenjou_Utena in Shoujo Kakumei Utena and Shindou_Hikaru in Hikaru no Go. Starting in 2008, she began suffering from ovarian cancer, which forced her to reduce her work load and give some of her roles to other seiyuus. The cancer eventually took her life in June 9, 2011.
