Now Viewing: kishimoto_masashiTag type: Artist Mangaka. he was born on November 8, 1974. He is most well known for creating the extremely popular shonen action adventure manga Naruto. Like many shounen action mangaka, he was heavily inspired by Dragon_Ball. Kishimoto grew up as a major fan of Toriyama Akira's work in general. Besides Dragon Ball, he loved Dr._Slump and the Dragon_Quest video game franchise. His earliest art predominantly consisted of fanart of characters he liked like Doraemon and Dr. Slump's heroine, Norimaki_Arale. However, Kishimoto went through a period of time in high school where he gradually lost interest in anime/manga and focused on sports instead. His passion for anime/manga was reignited after he saw a poster for the movie Akira and wanted to know how Ootomo_Katsuhiro made the illustration. He also came to regard Akira very highly, stating that no other manga has surprised him the way Akira did. His interest in art renewed, he decided to become a professional mangaka. When he watched the anime Hashire_Melos!, he became interested in the work of animators and character designers and began doing research on them. This led him to become acquainted with Nishio_Tetsuya, who worked on the anime adaptation of Ninku, and was also a big influence on Kishimoto. Outside of anime/manga, he also cites The_Matrix as an influence on him, and the film inspired some of the character redesigns Kishimoto did when Naruto became a serialized series. He made his debut with Karakuri in 1997, but the series was quickly canceled due to low ratings from reader polls. His follow-up series, Naruto, was far more successful in both Japan and North America, and has become his most well known work. He was pleased with Naruto's success with North Americans, feeling that it showed that North Americans could understand and appreciate a concept foreign to them like ninjas. While he has predominantly focused on writing and drawing Naruto, he has written and drawn a few one shots, including a crime manga called Mario, whose concept he developed during the early chapters of Naruto. However, Mario was postponed due to his work on Naruto, but it was released in 2013 as a one-shot. He really likes drawing feet, and especially toes; the vast majority of characters in Naruto wear sandals as opposed to shoes, even in combat. His younger twin brother is Kishimoto_Seishi, who is also a mangaka.
