Now Viewing: shenmueTag type: Copyright A series of wide open sandbox games created by Suzuki Yu. The first game debuted in 1999 for the Sega Dreamcast and was considered at the time to be an unusual game. It was intended to be the first chapter of a 4-7 game saga, but the relatively low sales combined with the games' high budgets led to only two games in the series being produced and the main storyline unfinished. However, 14 years after the second game's release in 2001, Suzuki announced that the series will continue and the third game is to be funded through Kickstarter. After Hazuki Ryo's father is killed by Lan Di for refusing to reveal where the Dragon's Mirror is located, Ryo embarks on an international quest to avenge his father's death and find the mirror. The games are notable for its slice of life esque simulation and elaborately designed world. The player is placed into a city where they can interact with the people, all of whom have their own daily schedules. Seasons and weather also change, much like they would in the real world. Besides advancing the plot, there are many things that the player can do, like play arcade games or help out the various citizens. The games also had their share of hand to hand combat action and was one of the earlier users of what would come to be known as quick time events.
