It was released on September 29, 2007. It was directed by Andou Masahiro, written by Takayama Fumihiko, and has an orchestral score composed by Sato Naoki. The film's fight choreography was handled by famed action animator Nakamura_Yutaka. The film is set in the Sengoku period of Japan. Kotarou is a young boy on the run with his dog Tobimaru. He decides to hide out in a temple where he encounters a nameless wandering swordsman who has a strange refusal to draw his sword. However, he agrees to be Kotaro's bodyguard and soon finds himself embroiled in a conflict that not only involves Japan but warriors serving the Ming emperor of China who want Kotaro's blood because it may be the key to an elixir to immortality. The film received generally positive critical reviews and won Best Animated Feature at FANTASPOA (International Fantastic Film Festival of Porto Alegre) in Brazil.
