He created many of the most iconic and influential works in said genre, most notably the Gundam franchise. As a creator, he is famous for often letting his emotional state of mind influence his work. When he is feeling happy, his works will often be lighthearted with optimistic messages. However, when he feels depressed and angry, his work will become extremely dark and he will be merciless towards his characters. The works he created when he was in this depressive state saddled him with his famous nickname, Minagoroshi no Tomino or "Kill Em All Tomino." Tomino frequently goes by various aliases such as Asa Minami, Yokitani Minoru, and Iogi Rin, which he uses whenever he does something outside of his main writing and directing duties.
