Now Viewing: max_anarchyTag type: Copyright 3D Multiplayer online beat em up game created by Platinum Games for Playstation 3 and XBOX 360. It was released in Japan in 2012. It is known as Anarchy Reigns in North America. Although it reuses a few characters from Madworld with slightly altered designs, the game is not a sequel or in the same continuity as Madworld. Some of the reused characters have a different role in this game. For example, Black Baron (Blacker Baron in this game) and Mathilda are now good guys and Jack's friends/rivals. Like Madworld, it also features an English language hip hop soundtrack by indie rappers and many rappers who worked on Madworld's soundtrack, like Ox and Doujah Raze and Sick YG, return for this game's soundtrack. Unlike its predecessor Max Anarchy is in full color and is comparatively less bloody with less focus on brutal kills. It is set in a post-apocalyptic world where most of the characters have cybernetic body parts or are full blown robots. As its title suggests, anarchy reigns with thugs, mutants, and bounty hunters roaming the land and causing destruction. The law enforcement group BPS is the closest thing to law and order, but even they are ethically suspect. The game's campaign is divided into 3 parts, Black side (Jack), White Side (Leo), and Red side which is unlocked after the previous two sides are completed. Both Jack and Leo pursue disgraced BPS officer Maximilian Caxton who has apparently experienced a psychotic break and has butchered various people. The former believes Max is responsible for his daughter's death and has taken up a job offered by Max's daughter Jeanne to retrieve him alive, but Jack's anger and thirst for vengeance runs very deep and his ability to honor Jeanne's wishes is increasingly called into question. Leo is working with fellow BPS agents Sasha Ivanoff and Nikolai Dmitri Bulygin to arrest Max. Leo wants to find his beloved mentor and friend Max and convince him to return amicably, but his superior Nikolai is much less sympathetic. Both protagonists find their paths and dilemmas intersecting. The game features over 10 multiplayer modes include Capture the Flag, Battle Royale, Deathmatch, Deathball. Most of the characters in the game's story are playable. Bayonetta is a guest character that is available for those who pre-order the game and can be downloaded as DLC The general combat in the game is chaotic and frenzied, particularly in Battle Royale mode where everyone, player and NPC, is fighting for themselves. Many of the stages are large and varied and besides the other fighters/player that you must deal with, you must also adapt to additional obstacles like a giant robot dropping into a brawl and wreaking havoc or a group of jets deciding to carpet bomb the stage. Besides their individual characters' techniques, players can also use items scattered around the arenas to damage their opponents. Taking opponents out when they're distracted or stealing kills is also encouraged. Like the rest of Platinum's games, this game also features pummel duels and since it is in multiplayer, the player can now engage in them with human opponents. The game features both Japanese and English voice tracks, even in the original Japanese release. Despite this, the North American release of the game was delayed by Sega to 2013 without informing the developers Platinum Games; when asked about it by online users, the developers were just as surprised at the announcement as fans were. This may have contributed to a souring of relations between Platinum Games and Sega as the former started working with Nintendo as the publisher of their games in 2013, starting with The Wonderful 101.
