Now Viewing: power_stoneTag type: Copyright Covers the entire series. 3D fighting game series created by Capcom. The original game was released on February 13, 1999 for the Sega Dreamcast. The games were designed by Itsuno_Hideaki. The Music is composed by Shibata Tetsuya. Bengus did the promotional artwork for the games. Like many fighting games, it features an international cast. The series takes place in an anachronistic fantasy universe. Samurai, Victorian ladies, World War I style ace pilots, and robots fight with each other. The series is relatively unique among 3D fighting games in that the arenas are completely free roaming; the player can run around the entire level as opposed to being stuck facing their opponent directly. The players can also use the environment and various weapons to their advantage, and the environments themselves often have obstacles that can be deadly. The environments themselves can be divided into multiple parts. For example, in Power Stone 2, there is a level that begins on an airship, which is eventually destroyed causing all fighters to fight for an umbrella to slow their fall while falling thousands of feet. The fighters land on floating ruins (those without an umbrella take damage) and continue the fight there. For these reasons, the franchise is often compared to Super_Smash_Bros. which despite being in 2D, has similar ideas in its combat system. However, Power Stone characters have a life bar like traditional fighting games. Also, if a player collects three of the eponymous Power Stones, his/her character will enter into a super powered mode. Players can also have their Power Stones knocked out of them and stolen. Power Stone is a 2 player game, but its sequel increases the number to 4 players. It is also possible to revive fallen characters in a team match. Its characters have yet to make an appearance as playable characters in the various Capcom vs. series, but the franchise has received an anime adaptation animated by Studio_Pierrot. It ran from April 3, 1999 to September 25, 1999. It was directed by Omori Takahiro and written by Tomita Sukehiro. The music was composed by Kikuchi Keisuke.
