Now Viewing: james_cameronTag type: Character Canadian filmmaker/underwater explorer born on August 16, 1954. He began his career working on special effects on various films before moving on to become a writer/director. Although he has directed a relatively small number of films over a career spanning several decades, almost all of his films have been financially successful and influential and some of them have smashed box office records. He is most well known for creating the Terminator franchise which has influenced Japanese pop culture with works like the game Snatcher and the series Zeiram homaging it. He often directs science fiction films and frequently works with special effects and make up artist Stan Winston. He generally pulls double duty as writer and director. His films are often praised for having revolutionary special effects. He often includes a brave female lead in his films. Even the women who initially seem weak and timid will become much more capable by the end of his films. He is notorious for his very high expectations of others and his temper on set which has alienated quite a few of his coworkers, many of whom have stated that they refuse to work with him again. His friends say that he is normally a friendly person until he starts going to work at which point a sort of evil side emerges that terrorizes everyone else working with him. His behavior is often exacerbated by his films tending to suffer many production setbacks. Nevertheless, almost all of his films have been critically and financially successful and a few actors like Michael Biehn, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and Bill Paxton have appeared in several of his films in spite of the difficulties. Outside of filmmaking he has an interest in deep sea diving and on March 26, 2012, he explored the deepest part of the Marianna Trench, the Challenger Deep, for three hours and even Tweeted while he was down there. He also has an interest in anime/manga and planned on making an adaptation of Battle Angel Alita for decades, which was finally released in 2019, although Cameron ended up only writing and producing while Robert Rodriguez directed.
