Now Viewing: inceptionTag type: Copyright Tag refers to the popular 2010 American science fiction action heist film written and directed by Christopher Nolan. It stars Leonardo_Dicaprio, Ellen Page, Joseph Gordon Levitt, Tom Hardy, Marion Cotillard, Ken Watanabe, Dileep Rao, and Cillian Murphy. The film's success notably boosted Hardy's acting career. The soundtrack is composed by Hans Zimmer, who notably based the film's main leitmotif on the French Edith Piaf song, "Non, je ne regrette rien," which also appears in the film itself. The film's main theme sounds like a slowed down distorted version of said song. In this film's universe, corporate espionage is done by sending 'extractors,' professional thieves who infiltrate targets' minds through the process of shared dreaming. Their job is to extract key information from their targets for their employers. Dominick Cobb and Arthur are two professional extractors sent on a mission to extract information from the extremely wealthy and powerful businessman Saito. The mission goes wrong once Cobb's memory of his deceased wife and physical manifestation of his biggest inner demon, Mal, interferes with the mission. However, the mission turns out to be test by Saito; he is looking for a group of extractors who can perform an 'inception,' planting an idea into someone's subconsciousness. Saito wants Cobb to break up an energy conglomerate owned by the Fischer family and Cobb is to accomplish this by going into Robert Fischer's mind and planting the idea that the conglomerate should be dissolved. In exchange for completing the mission, Cobb will be cleared of a murder charge and he will be reunited with his children.Cobb assembles a team to incept Robert's mind, but the team soon finds themselves opposed both by enemies created by Robert's subconscious and Mal, who has a personal grudge against Cobb. Nolan came up with the basic idea behind the film after he finished Insomnia in 2002. The film was originally intended to be a horror film about dream stealers, but he eventually changed the film to its current state. He spent nine years writing the film's script. One reason the film spent so long in development is because Nolan felt that he needed more experience making big budget films and a big budget was necessary to do justice to his ideas. Batman_Begins and The_Dark_Knight helped give him the necessary experience to make this film. The film was influenced by several movies made in the late 1990s: The_Matrix, The Thirteenth Floor, and Dark City. All of these movies were based on the premise that the world around you is not real. Besides said films, he was was also influenced by the anime movie Paprika, the cyberpunk movie Blade_Runner, and the literature of Jorge Luis Borges. The majority of the film's many special effects were done practically, with green screen and CGI only being used for scenes that were impossible to do for real. The film was critically and financially successful, grossing $825,532,764 worldwide. It also won Academy Awards for Special Effects, Sound Mixing, Sound Editing, and Cinematography. It won British Academy Film Awards for Production Design, Special Effects, and Sound. It notably popularized the word inception and spawned multiple memes, such as "We have to go deeper" and attaching -ception to another word/name to refer to something being within the same thing. The film is also famous for having an intentionally ambiguous ending that is left up to viewer interpretation.
