Now Viewing: i-13_(kantai_collection)Tag type: Character 伊13 I-13 is the first of only two Type-AM submarines actually completed (alongside her younger sister, I-14_(Kantai_Collection)), as portrayed (personification) in the video game Kantai_Collection. Like other submarines with numbers instead of names, she has a goroawase [1] nickname: Hitomi. Hitomi has a cripplingly shy personality that lacks any self-confidence, with her in-game lines broken by pauses as she struggles to continue speaking up, likely due to her real life counterpart's very short history. Her in-game lines also connect her firmly to her sister ship, I-14 (Iyo), with Hitomi –somewhat like Zara_(Kantai_Collection)– being unable to rein in her younger sister. I-13 has brown tsurime eyes and short_hair, black_hair with hair_between_eyes, and a asymmetrical_hair (a single, long sidelock on her left side, contrasting with her sister's right). I-13 wears a school_swimsuit with "イ13" emblazoned over her hip. Over this, she wears a serafuku-style shirt (sailor_collar) with a large cut-out for her chest. On her head, she wears headphones with a hat shaped like a submarine's bow. On her arms, she has a miniature submarine sail [2] strapped to her right upper arm, and partly_fingerless_gloves on her hands. Metal rings are on her thighs, and she wears toeless high_heel_boots whose heels are ship keels. The Type-AM submarine was a specialized long-range submersible carrier, designed to hold two Aichi_M6A_Seiran floatplanes for remote aerial operations. "Type-AM" means it was a "Modified" "Type-A", of which only one ship, the I-12 was completed, creating a larger submarine than the I-12 to carry the larger Seiran fighters. The I-400-class (I-401_(Kantai_Collection)) succeeded the Type-AM, and was even larger, in order to carry three floatplanes and more fuel to perform even longer-range operations. The historical Imperial_Japanese_Navy's (IJN) I-13 had a severely short history, being commissioned only on December 16th, 1944, after the IJN had already lost its capacity to contest the USN's advance at Leyte Gulf [3]. The only mission I-13 attempted to undertake was a mission [4] to secretly deliver a pair of C6N_Saiun aircraft to the Truk Naval Base. After departing for its first mission on July 11th, 1945, I-13 was never heard from again, and was presumed sunk in an anti-submarine warfare operation performed by the escort carrier USS Anzio on July 16th. Fans have taken notice that her and I-14's hat look very similar to the Pokémon Garchomp.
