They are led by Benjamin Aidoo and they originated as a standard pallbearer service before Aidoo came up with the idea to incorporate dance moves. They first gained international exposure in 2017 when the BBC did a report on them, but they became a popular meme in March 2020 when Youtuber Syon uploaded a clip of them on Youtube. It is common for people to upload clips of people suffering mishaps before immediately cutting to the dancing pallbearers. Clips of them are often accompanied by the electronic song Astronomia by Tony Igy and remixed by Vicetone. Because of this, the meme is also often referred to as Coffin Dance.
