Now Viewing: american_psychoTag type: Copyright Tag refers to images referencing the American psychological horror/black comedy novel and film. It started off as novel written by Bret Easton Ellis and published in 1991, and became one of his most successful works. It was adapted into a film that was released on January 21, 2000. The film was written and directed by Mary Harron, and co-written by Guievere Turner. The soundtrack was composed by John Cale. The film stars Christian_Bale and thanks to the film's cult status, became his breakthrough role as an adult actor. The film generally follows the novel's story, but notably removes some of the more notoriously graphic violence from the book. Both the novel and film have a high degree of ambiguity over how much of what the audience sees is the truth. Both works combine psychological horror with satirical humor lampooning 1980s Wall Street culture. The novel also received a musical adaptation in December 2013 which starred Matt Smith. The novel/film is set in late 1980s New York, the height of the Reagan era and aggressive American capitalism. Patrick Bateman is a young wealthy businessmen who hangs out amongst similarly wealthy Wall Street peers. Bateman and his cohorts indulge in all the excesses of the era and lead a heavily materialistic lifestyle. However, Bateman secretly has sadistic impulses on top of his hedonism that he feels compelled to act on. As he indulges his sadistic desires via committing brutal murders, he finds his psyche steadily breaking down. . . The story takes place in the same universe as Ellis' other novels, but functions as a stand alone story. Patrick Bateman actually debuted in Ellis' previous novel The Rules of Attraction. Bateman returns in Ellis' Lunar Park and Glamorama. Other Wiki Information Last updated: 07/31/21 2:54 AM by jojosstand This entry is not locked and you can edit it as you see fit. |
